Disciple Class

The Sharing from Disciple Class.

Disciple Red Testimony- Joshua

My initial intent of joining the disciple class was to get into the habit of reading the scriptures on a regular basis with proper guidelines and to hopefully to be able to hear from the Lord. In the past, I have tried to follow a few bible reading planners but failed as I was too accommodated to read in my own way and I feel constricted following a planner.

I remember the first few weeks of the disciple class normally had between 10 to 20 students and the daily chapters assigned to read were easy; so to say. But I never thought I would have difficulty trying to finish the daily readings assigned halfway through the class until half way through the course. There were weeks where I had to catch up a few days of reading because I was busy but I always seem to manage in the end. The reason being I felt those weeks were very dry and dull.

Nevertheless, I felt the Lord spoke to me in several occasions throughout the course and despite the difficulty of the reading; the classes at the end of the week were a great delight. Every week there was laughter and we all get to know more of each other. As we approach to the final weeks, there were only half of the original number who joined and it was a bit sad to see some who had to leave when we were already close to finishing.

Overall, I felt the best part of the disciple class was the fellowship we had with each other and the prayers we prayed for each other every week. It was a lot of time I had to sacrifice but it was all worth it.

Disciple Red Testimony- Wilson Wong

Disciple Red study is a must for any true follower of Christ. An indispensable course where experts of multiple disciplines contribute their views in theological, geographical, historical, archeological that lay-christians would highly unlikely to access such expansive knowledge in our limited time devoted to read God's word if any at all. If one has no time to conduct one's own research in our church library reading through the collection, disciple course is then a crash course of gaining insight.

Besides, this course is being conducted in a group, invaluable dissections on many subject matters come from students each of different life experience following Lord Jesus. Such mutual learning and understanding is profound in one's grasping on the biblical lessons that were set in ancient times.

it is taught that we as Christ follower ought to meditate on God's laws (Psalm 1:2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night.) And one matured sister has contributed that by going through the bible at least ten times, one will be so ingrained with biblical messages and meditation only comes naturally. As such God's word truly guides one's life (Psalm 119:105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.)

Look Back on My Journey and Remember- Esther

Looking back, from the beginning to the end, is part of a life journey of faith.

My disciple group is made up of brothers and sisters of different age groups. It is not by accident that we signed up for this course together. It’s interesting to hear them sharing their unique experiences and insights. Each person would notice different things as we studied along the way so we got to listen to the different views when we met up once a week and shared. We struggled together through the daily homework. But knowing that there is someone who struggled with me gave me great comfort. We prayed for each other, that’s also a promise we made to each other in this Disciple Red group.

The human condition which we read each week is so true. When it's compared to the marks of discipleship, I realized how insignificant I am, and all the more I need God in my life and the community of faith to embark on this journey of faith together.

As time passed, when I saw the group getting smaller and smaller, I began to ask myself: "what is the point to continue when I can just turn around and leave" It is not that I didn’t expect it to happen. Still when it happened, the impact was there. There were so many reasons for me to just quit. However, our faithful God reminded me of why I decided to join in the very first place.

I was in my second semester of my second year in university early this year. Soon, I will be in my final year. I struggled with the decision of whether to join or not. I knew it’s going to be a challenge for me with the subjects getting harder and harder. I prayed about it and asked advices from my close ones. Finally, I made up my mind. I was one of the few who registered last.

In the first class where we were asked to share the reason we joined, ‘because God would be happy’, that’s my reason. And that’s the only one reason that I need to hang in there and continue the race.

In addition, I still remembered telling God that “once I begin, there’s no turning back. I am going to try my best to finish it. “ Later, signing the Disciple Covenant further convicted me to keep my promise to God in the witness of my brothers and sisters in Christ. I can’t simply walk off. A promise is a promise.

Surprisingly, my exam result turned out to be quite good, much better than what I expected. I know it’s the work of God in my life. Indeed, His grace is sufficient. Thanks be to God and may all glory be to Him, and Him alone.

Throughout the journey, He is always there to encourage me and cheer me on whenever I feel like giving up. And I know He is going to remain faithful to the very end. The closing of Disciple Red Course actually marks the beginning of many more journeys with God and I am looking forward to how He will work in my life till the day I meet Him face to face.

Last but not least, I encourage all to sign up for the course and experience for yourself the works of God in your life.
